Florida RV camping: what to know

Florida is the only state where you can RV camp on a Gulf beach in January, tow to the Keys in February and be at a theme-park campground by March. It's also the most competitive booking market in the country: state-park beach sites and Fort Wilderness release 11 to 13 months out and the winter snowbird season fills the Gulf Coast resorts.

Our Florida guides are organized by region — Panhandle, Gulf Coast, Orlando/Central, Atlantic coast, Everglades and the Keys — with individual reviews of the parks people search for most.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best RV camping in Florida?

For beaches: Fort De Soto and the Panhandle state parks (Fort Pickens, Topsail Hill, St. Andrews). For theme parks: Fort Wilderness and the Orlando resorts. For winter stays: the Gulf Coast snowbird resorts from Tampa to Naples. For a bucket-list trip: the Keys, especially Bahia Honda.

When is RV season in Florida?

November through April is peak season statewide, driven by snowbirds and northern-winter escapes. Summer is hot, humid and stormy but far cheaper and easier to book. Hurricane season runs June through November.

How far ahead should I book Florida RV parks?

Florida State Parks open reservations 11 months ahead and beach sites often go the first day. Disney opens Fort Wilderness bookings well over a year ahead, and popular weeks fill early. Private snowbird resorts typically take returning guests first, then open remaining winter sites the previous spring.

Are there RV parks near Disney World?

Yes. Disney's Fort Wilderness is on Walt Disney World property; several private resorts sit within about 15–30 minutes in Kissimmee and Clermont. Our Orlando guide compares them by distance, hookups and amenities.

Do Florida state parks allow big rigs?

Many do, but limits are set per site and often top out around 35–45 feet. Older campgrounds like Bahia Honda have a handful of big-rig sites and many small ones. Filter by rig length on the reservation system before booking.
