Gulf State Park Campground#

Gulf State Park is the reason Gulf Shores is on the RV map. It is a large, professionally run state park with a campground built for RVs — paved pads, picnic tables, grills, full hookups — and a park around it that includes a fishing pier, miles of trails, a lodge, a nature center and beach access.

The honest qualifier is the beach distance. This is a lagoon-side campground about a mile and a half from the Gulf; you bike or use park transport to the sand rather than stepping onto it. For a lot of campers — especially those staying weeks — the trade for full hookups, paved pads and 11 bathhouses is easily worth it. The winter monthly program (November through March) is what makes Gulf State Park a serious snowbird base; it fills quickly, so call early.

Bella Terra of Gulf Shores#

Bella Terra is the luxury pick — a gated Class A motorcoach resort of individually owned lots with resort landscaping, a clubhouse, pool and the kind of manicured pads that put it in the same conversation as the Florida and Arizona motorcoach resorts.

Anchors Aweigh is a private full-hookup park on the Foley side of Gulf Shores, positioned for people who want a resort-style base a short drive from the beach without state park competition for sites or motorcoach-only rules.

Spring (March–May) and fall (October–November) are the sweet spot: warm water, manageable humidity, and open restaurants without the summer crush. Summer is peak family season — hot, humid, afternoon storms — and the beach is at its most crowded. Winter is mild and is snowbird season; Gulf State Park’s monthly reservations run November through March. Hurricane season peaks August through October; know each park’s cancellation policy.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach blur together along the beach highway; every park in this guide is within a short drive of both towns’ beaches, the Gulf State Park pier, the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge to the west and the Flora-Bama at the Florida line to the east. Fort Morgan, at the tip of the peninsula, is a quiet 20-mile detour with a Civil War fort and the ferry to Dauphin Island. Restaurants and groceries are plentiful; big-rig-friendly fuel is easier on the Foley side than on the beach highway.
