Sunset Campground is the larger of the two Grant Grove campgrounds in Kings Canyon National Park, California, sitting next door to Azalea at about 6,500 feet on the Highway 180 side of the park. It is a National Park Service campground: forested sites among tall conifers, picnic tables, fire rings and bear boxes, flush toilets and potable water, and no hookups of any kind. It suits smaller rigs — Class C motorhomes, vans and modest travel trailers — because the posted maximum RV length is 30 feet, tighter than Azalea's.

Why RVers stay here

Sunset runs seasonally, typically late May through September, and books through Recreation.gov like the rest of the park. Our Sequoia and Kings Canyon guide notes that with Dorst Creek closed for the 2026 season, Sunset absorbs extra summer demand, so weekends from June through August fill faster than usual. The trade-off for the setting is dry camping at elevation: plan your water and power, and expect cool nights even in July. Two group sites (A and B) take up to 30 people and five vehicles each, but no RVs or trailers.

Sequoia & Kings Canyon RV Camping: Campgrounds Among the Giants

With Dorst Creek closed for 2026, Sunset will absorb some of the displaced summer demand. Expect competition for sites to be tighter than usual, particularly on weekends from June through August.
